TFG attempts to help raise money in the UK to fund or help with projects whether they are new or ongoing. It is the view of TFG that the projects they support should be helping, honouring and honest.
  • Projects should help the local community or a group who have special needs.
  • Projects should honour local people and their way of life.
  • Projects should be honest with local people being accountable for any investments.
TFG is able to monitor the work of different projects through personal relationships and the director of operations in India, Bishop Pastor Francis Jackson.

The orphanage

The Mercy Orphanage was sited in a suburb of Bangalore, when we visited on the 2000 mission. We were aware that the children were subdued, even frightened. When we questioned the managers they told us of an incident that had happened two or three weeks previously. Two cobra snakes had got into one of the children's dormitories and the manager had chased them out. He killed one of the snakes but when the local Hindus found out they attacked the Orphanage. The local people worship the snakes and this manager had killed one of their gods. After this incident there was a discussion between Bishop Pastor Francis Jackson and the local people but because of an ongoing danger to the children it was agreed that the orphanage should move. It was during our visit that the Pastor's son Samuel died and it was thought right that the new home be called "The Samuel Joseph Jackson Memorial Mercy Home". During the mission in 2001 the Orphanage was officially opened and three ministers from the state of Karnataka officiated at the opening. The team could see the change in the children; they were now happy and relaxed.

But within one year of the problem the children are re-settled and are developing in a happy and loving environment. There will always be work to do at the Samuel Joseph Jackson Memorial Mercy Home as numbers of orphans needing assistance continues to grow.

In our latest visit (2002) we have noticed that a vast amount of work has been done. The Chapel now has a congregation of 40, 85 children in the orphange and the orphanage is becoming a hub of the community with even a doctor visiting once a week.Yet there is still building work to do at the new Mercy home.

  • Building and equipping of Kitchen
  • Building and equipping of Dining Hall
  • Building of toilet blocks
  • Electrical work

The pictures below show the work in progress and the plan at the bottom shows gives an idea of what is proposed. Eventually there will be room for over 100 children and accommodation for the elderly as well a sa Bible school.

The plan shown below is not to scale and is only meant to give a representation of the work being done. In fact it was a rough sketch made at the time of the visit
