What we Believe

The incomparable Christ

The bible shows our Lord Jesus Christ as truly man (“in all things made like unto his brethren”) yet at the same time truly God (“unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God is for ever and ever”). John speaks of Christ as “The word (who) was God”. He later adds “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us”. Here deity and humanity are ascribed to the same Lord Jesus Christ. He is co-eternal, co-equal and co-essential with the Father.

Assemblies of God emphasise eight essential features of Christology. We believe in the virgin birth of Christ, in his sinless life, and in his supernatural ministry - His words were oracles, his works were miracles. We rejoice in his substitutionary, atoning death on the cross, his bodily resurrection from the tomb, his triumphant ascension into glory. We believe in his present ministry as our intercessor at the right hand of God, and look for his premillenial second advent, the blessed hope set before us.

Christ “is made unto us wisdom and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption”. His grace enriches us. His power enables us; his presence is ever with us. To acknowledege him as Lord brings salvation, to confess our allegiance to him brings eternal reward.
