What we Believe
Revelation and reason
The bible is Gods revelation of Himself and His
ways, Thy word is truth. But God does not impose upon us an
arbitary code of conduct or a cast iron creed, he calls upon us to reason
together, God, who gave us minds with which to serve him, presents to us
truth in a form that reason can assimilate.
The gospel is devine logic; postulate God, and the
conclusions of scripture become demonstrably valid. Unbelief is fallacy; faith
is rationality. Reason applied to scripture produces doctrine, which is
systemised bible truth. Sound doctrine states in concrete form the scattered
affirmations of scripture, witnesses in express terms of those things
which are most surely believed among us, and demonstrates the relevance
if Christianity to life, if ye know these things happy are ye if ye do
them. Peter exhorts believers to be ready always to give answer to
every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you. He himself
is an example of the method he recommends in that his first sermon abounds in
sanctified logic. He reasons from fact, he reasons from scripture, he reasons
from experience. His irresistible conclusions, plus Holy Ghost conviction,
resulted in many conversions.
The following is a brief attempt to explain the
doctrinal reason why of the fellowship of Assemblies of God. The beliefs we
consider essential are set forth in a statement of faith; they are here
expanded to present the enquirer with a fuller view of WHAT WE BELIEVE
