Together for God:
India 2006
God's investment in our future
Thursday 4th May
Here is information from Roger:
This morning we went to visit Pastor Gopi Daniel. Graham and I visited him in 2004 when his wife had just lost their 2nd child. Their eldest boy had survived the infanthood but two had died. We prayed for him feeling it was some kind of curse from local people. We broke the curse. Now Gopi Daniel and his wife have another little boy Joshua who is 10 months old.
His church is about 40 - 50 strong plus there are extra people coming to the evening services. Although in Bangalore the village where they live and minister is know as Lambadiy pronounced "LAM-BAR-DEE" This comes from the name of the people who are a tribe people like gypsies. They are a separate caste.
The pictures taken today show their home and the plot of land where they hope to build. Shanti is Gopi Daniel's wife, their sons are Jackson 6 years old and Joshua 10 months. They had planned to build a church on the plot of land but the local people complained. The objections came mainly from people working on the temple nearby and neighbours who were disturbed by excessive noise from their home during meetings. They have obviously worked to remedy the later.
They believe that the way forward is to build a social centre on the plot of land to train women in tailoring. Shanti has study and received a diploma in tailoring and is now ready to train people. Of course, the building would be able to be used as a church on a Sunday. The big thing is to win over the neighbours and the local village leaders.
Gopi Daniel has been married for 7 years and ministering in the village for 5-6 years before many of the houses were built in the village. Please continue to pray for this wonderful family.
In the afternoon we took a final session with the Bible college students. They have done very well in all their classes and they are a great bunch of guys. We had a small preaching competition and Shantosh won a five dollar bill. He chose the subject of speaking at a funeral and handled the session very sensitively.
Now for an early night as we have to leave at 8am to go to Kolar Gold Fields in the morning.
Take a look at the picture gallery for some photographs taken today.
Please pray:
- For the ministering that Roger and Simon will be undertaking.
- For the health of the Roger and Simon.
- For the family members of Roger and Simon staying at home
