God's investment in our future

Sunday 20th June 2004

Today is the last day of the gospel crusade and at the end of the day the team will depart to Bangalore by Udyan Express.

We had an email from the team which was received on Monday 21st June regard this day:

Report for 20th June written 21st June 9am

Roger stayed at the hotel resting and the rest of the team were distributed in twos amongst local churches. Graham and Eileen were together at small church on the top of a house. Eileen gave a testimony and Graham preached. Terrie and Tina went to a church which had a corrugated iron roof. The wind was so strong they had to shout at times to make themselves heard. The people in these churches said they were so happy because it was the first time that speakers had come to their churches and many photographs were taken. Pastor Jackson accompanied Lydia to a large Methodist church where Lydia preached.

In the afternoon the whole team, both Indian and English, were invited out to dinner and enjoyed good food and fellowship with some local believers. Later, Lydia and Tina were asked to speak to a group of nurses but first were taken with Pastor Jackson and the Indian team for tea to another believers’ home. Lydia and Tina were then taken on to the nursing college and shared for a short time with the nurses.

At the gospel meeting in the evening Eileen gave a testimony called ‘You’re never too old to be born again.’ Roger was feeling strong enough to give a testimony about God being the strength of his heart and his portion forever. Pastor Jackson then preached and about 40 people responded to his message.

During the conference most of the people who responded were Methodist ministers and their families, who had never been told about the born-again experience. Many pastors were baptised in the Holy Spirit and Pastor Jackson has undertaken at the request of the ministers of the town to come back in January and take a major crusade.

We feel that the conference in Gulbarga has been very successful for the following reasons:

  • This is the first time anyone has taken a conference like this in this area, the fallow ground has been broken.
  • Many existing church leaders were born again and baptised in the Holy Spirit. Power has come to the city.
  • New friends and deeper relationships have been formed within the Christian community here and with Christians from Bangalore. There is now unity and the commanded blessing of God.

Please pray:

  1. For the team ministering today
  2. For people to become Christians at the Gospel Meetings in Gulbarga
  3. For the people who have become Christians over this conference, that they will attend local churches and grow in their Christian life.
  4. Please pray for the safety of the team as they travel back to Bangalore
  5. That God would refresh and strengthen the team for the next leg of the mission trip
  6. For the health of the team
