Relationship with God

Christianity is not a religion it is a relationship and the most important commands that God has given us are:

Mark 12:29 "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.
Mark 12:30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'
Mark 12:31 The second is this: 'Love your neighbour as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."

John 15:12 "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you."
John 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."

1 John 4:19 "We love because he first loved us."
1 John 4:20 "If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen."
1 John 4:21 "And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother."

As Christianity is a relationship and not a religion, it is important to see that it is not rites, ritual, rules or regulations that matter to God, it is relationship hence his commands.

Therefore before we go to an intercessory meeting or desire or seek spiritual gifts we should examine our hearts to ensure that we are in a right place. In fact, we should examine ourselves before we go to church or break bread.

1 Corinthians 11:28 "A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup."

Now some think that it is all right for the Christian not to take the bread and the wine, however this is quite erroneous. The command is to love God, our neighbour, and each other, and therefore to be in that right place with God. Scripture is clear that we must also be right with our brothers and sisters to be right with God.

The things that stop us from being right with God include, unconfessed sin, selfishness and self-centredness, unforgiveness, idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness.

Yet the bible says,

1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

Be in the right place with God for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." (1 Pet 1:16 )
