Prayer and Prophecy

Asking for the prophetic

The bible clearly says that we should desire spiritual gifts.

1 Corinthians 12:31 "But eagerly desire the greater gifts."
1 Corinthians 14:1 "Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy."

Therefore it is quite reasonable to ask God for a prophetic word. There are many ways of asking and receiving a prophetic word but all of them require the application of faith.

There are two main paths that may be followed in asking and receiving a prophetic word in the area of intercession; however, this applies to many areas of the developing of the prophetic gift.

Pathway 1 Pathway 2
Find a quite place and find a position that you feel comfortable in such as sitting or walking.

a) Pray in tongues.
b) Ask God for a prophetic word.
c) Continue to pray in tongues.
d) Expect God to speak to you in the service or intercessory prayer time.
e) Employ faith.
f) When you believe that you have something from God check it out with a leader.
As part of the intercessory pattern of an intercessory meeting section.

a) Get comfortable and have a bible nearby; I find lying on the floor useful.
b) Ask God to show you how to pray for a situation or what to pray.
c) Expect and allow God to speak to you.
e) Employ faith.
f) When you believe that you have something from God compare it with what others have received and receive direction from the leader of the session.

It is always good to submit that which you have received to the leader of the meeting and in an intercessory prayer meeting to hear what others have received, and then to compare and to weigh all that has been said before commencing with prayer under the guidance of the meeting leader.
