A Proved and Approved GiftingThe dangers of Prophecy - dangers for cynical peopleThe real danger for those who are cynical about the prophetic is that they remove themselves from the blessing of God. The cynical person is inclined to believe the worst in others, and to be distrustful, sarcastic and mocking. Unfortunately this leads to dissatisfaction with life. It is important that we test what is said both prophetically and in preaching and teaching within the church. Someone once said to me about applying openly such tests, "Don't rock the boat." My reply was, "If it isn't safe to rock the boat, I don't want to be in it." However, as soon as our questioning borders on cynicism we must seek God and the help of local church leaders. Local church leaders can also help by creating an environment where mistakes and failure are allowed but are corrected without condemnation or a break in relationship occurring 1 Thessalonians 5:19 - 21 " do not put out the Spirit's fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything. Hold on to the good." |
