A Proved and Approved GiftingThe dangers of Prophecy - danger for prophetic peopleThere are real dangers for those who move or who are starting to experience moving in the prophetic gift. When sharing an accurate prophetic word there is a sense of relief and elation in the giver of the word. This can lead to two pitfalls; firstly there can be a tendency to enjoy the limelight, which is often followed by an inflated ego and damage to the integrity and character of the person. Secondly, after the feeling of relief and elation there can be a spiritual attack, that robs the person of their self-confidence and well-being. Their faith in the gift is undermined by such an attack. Of course, this is not an either/or situation and the person may experience a mix of these feelings. The church and more particularly the church leadership can build an environment that is safe not only for the recipients of the prophetic word but also for the giver of the word. A third danger is the temptation to over spiritualise everything that happens. It is true to say that there can be God given weather and there can also be demonically given weather but most of the time the weather is just the weather, apart of God's provision for creation. Danger also exists where the leadership offer no proper covering or teaching of the process for weighing the prophetic or the abdication of leadership to take responsibility in a service and/or for the prophetic used inside or outside of the service. God holds leaders responsible for the church as men who shall give a double account and it is in the interest of everyone that leaders lead in the area of spiritual gifts, even when others are more used in the gift than themselves. |
