How to be a Christian on the Internet

How to send emails

When you write an email always try to put yourself in the recipients position as they sit at home or in the office and read your message. The difficulty with email is that it is an informal means of communication that can easily be misinterpreted. Therefore take your time in answering and bear in mind that other peoples lack of professionalism is no excuse for yours.

Mat 7:12 "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you" because others are rude or misunderstand your motives or actions, don't react badly. Rather be gracious and read Nettiquette: electronic ettiquette. The principles of Nettiquette are the same principles for good communication in any media.

How to read emails

Don't believe everything you read in an email. Not only are there people who are practical jokers, there are also those who will try to con you or send you a hoax virus (see Virus information page)

There are also computer virus that can damage your computer and cause you to lose files. There are also wild viruses that spread without the knowledge of the people cited in the email as the sender. (see Virus information page)

Give people the benefit of the doubt remember poor skills levels do not equal bad manners. If you receive a badly written or rude email. use the 3 day rule.

Three day rule: read the communication. Leave it for three days. Then with grace and kindness answer the communication.

How to be effective and productive

"For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive ... " (2 Pet 1:5 -8a)
