First Steps in the Prophetic

In order to discover your gift, it is essential to learn about how God speaks and this takes time and perseverance. There are two important things to mention here; firstly there needs to be a desire in our hearts and secondly we need to come before the Lord in prayer:

Jesus said in John 16:24 "Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete."

James 1:5 "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him."

1 Cor 14:1 "Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy."

Having come before the Lord in prayer, with a desire in your heart to hear his voice, expect him to speak to you.
