Thresholds

We step over a threshold each time we enter a house. It is the access point, and if a house is built on low ground it will have a low threshold against flooding; just as a house on high ground will not be so easily threatened.

We all have personal thresholds; the point where we react, or where we are threatened or disturbed. Take for instance our problems. Most people can handle their lives when things are going normally, but when pressures build up, they are unable to cope. Others with higher thresholds can ride out the storm.

We also have pain thresholds. Some react very quickly to pain, however slight. The sight of blood is particularly upsetting, and even the smell of antiseptics at a hospital can put some people off. Those with higher pain thresholds have no such difficulties; not even with the dentist's drill!

Each of us also has a sexual threshold. Those with low sexual thresholds respond more easily to outside stimuli. Perhaps such folk come under the 'weaker brother' category of 1 Corinthians 8:11, but they need to be considered, and certainly they themselves must be prayerfully diligent of their condition.

For some, male and female, their sexuality can seem to be a burden, and they can easily be misunderstood by the 'stronger brother'. There is however, hope and help for them as we shall see.
