Women and Worship

Why has the Church attracted more women than men to its ranks? Is it because they have a greater capacity for loving God than men have; or are they on a higher spiritual wave‑length? Whatever the answers to such questions, one thing is sure; a woman does have a tremendous potential for devotion and worship. Men may have the potential for the exposition of theology, but they do not surpass women in their capacity for worship.

It was a woman who gave us the Magnificat... "My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour... for He that is Mighty hath done great things, and holy is His Name" (Luke 1).

It was a woman too, who in a reckless act of devotion to the Lord lavished what was the equivalent of a life‑savings in the form of an alabaster box of ointment. It was the men who queried that glorious gesture with their mercenary thoughts. It was yet another woman, Lydia, who first welcomed the Gospel into Europe. Women were the last at the Cross and the first at the Sepulchre of Jesus. We have cause to thank God for the noble line and great tradition of Godly women; the Sisterhood of Faith!
