A Gift for Today...continued

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit - Faith

The gift of faith is divinely given faith for a particular and specific thing or time. It is the supernatural, strong or unshakeable belief in or for something that is without evidence of proof.

It is not the will or the determination of man to believe and/or to stand in the face of adversity or evidence but rather the enabling of the Holy Spirit to do so.

W.R. Jones in the book Pentecostal Doctrine in the chapter headed 'The nine gifts of the Holy Spirit' (9) states:

"This faith is distinct from natural faith, such as operates when we sow lettuce seeds in the back garden and naturally expect that lettuces will come up. It is different from saving faith and distinct from that faith which is the fruit of the Spirit. It overlaps into the working of miracles and the gifts of healing, but, in its own right, it is the power to receive, enjoy and endure things by the Spirit.

This faith enables us to step out of the natural into the spiritual. It is in operation in many ways in Hebrews 11:33-37: "Who through faith subdued kingdoms... escaped the edge of the sword... women received their dead raised to life again... others were stoned, were sawn asunder, were slain by the sword". "
