War ...continued
AN OVERVIEW OF CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTION.
There is a very wise and considered viewpoint made in the
Chambers's encyclopedia volume 10, page 304b. It states, "It might be found
possible to give a relative justification to the natural use of war in extreme
cases, while reserving a growing place for those individuals, who on positive
and Christian grounds earmark themselves for the exclusive use of loving
service as the means whereby evil is to be met. Such a distinction of functions
would bear some resemblance to the recognition of the Monastic orders of
medieaval times, and moreover it would still leave ample room for all practical
peace-making efforts, in which even pacifists could share on political lines".
